The competition was open to any student in grades 9 through 12. It required participants to perform a Shakespeare monologue approximately two minutes in length. The contest was judged by theater and media professionals.
"As we reach our tenth year of the High School Shakespeare Monologue Contest, it gives me great pleasure to see how many young people are embracing Shakespeare and his plays," stated John Neville-Andrews, the Festival's artistic producer. "This year we had contestants of the highest quality, which provided rigorous and spirited competition, not to mention enormous pleasure."
Lydia Hiller is in the 10th grade at Pioneer High School and Maegan Murphy is in the 11th grade at Father Gabriel Richard High School. Both high schools are located in Ann Arbor.
