2008 Audition Requirements
ALL AUDITIONS REQUIRE AN APPOINTMENT. Equity actors who are unable to schedule an audition during the time reserved for full Equity members may schedule an audition during any of the times listed for non-Equity auditions.

The "two, two, two" rule is as follows:
Be prepared to deliver a TWO-minute (max) monologue from any Shakespeare play.
Bring TWO recent headshots.
Bring TWO up-to-date resumes.
Exception: Children auditioning for minor roles should prepare one monologue, one minute in length and need not have memorized it; reading is acceptable.
Callbacks will probably be conducted at the time of auditions. Final casting decisions will be made by the end of March.
If cast, performers must be available for rehearsals and performances from mid-June through the end of the Festival. Limited housing is available.

General Audition Information
Auditions for each summer's Festival are usually conducted during February or March, and casting decisions are finalized by the end of March.
After audition dates are announced, applicants must call the Festival - (517) 788-5032, or toll-free at (866) 705-2636 - to schedule a time slot. They should be prepared to deliver one monologue, no more than 2 minutes in length, from any Shakespeare play. For minor roles, prepared monologues are recommended, but not required.
Three resumes and three photos are strongly recommended.
Children auditioning for minor roles should prepare one monologue, 1 minute in length. It does not need to be memorized; reading the text is acceptable.
Callbacks will be conducted on a separate date, usually the weekend after auditions. Callback dates will be listed as part of each year's audition announcement, and actors will be notified if they are needed for callbacks. Please note there will be some scene reading and you may be asked to remain for the entire callback day.
If cast, performers must be available for rehearsals and performances from mid-June through the end of the Festival. Housing and a limited number of stipends are available, and will be awarded at the discretion of the artistic and managing directors. Any actors accepted into the company can obtain credit through the University of Michigan and Jackson Community College by enrolling and paying the appropriate tuition.

The Michigan Shakespeare Festival operates under an Actors' Equity Association, Letter of Agreement contract. Actors who are cast in the Shakespeare plays can accrue Equity weeks (points) toward full Equity status if they are a member of the Equity Membership Candidate program. Or, if they are not a member of the EMC program, they can join through the Festival.
