Pioneer Wine Trail

A Perfect Combination

By Heather Price, Sandhill Cranes Winery & PWT Chair

The Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail is pleased to partner with the Michigan Shakespeare Festival - what a perfect combination!

Jackson is surrounded by the charming wineries that make up the Pioneer Wine Trail. Many are small, family-owned wineries, but the wine trail also features two tasting rooms from a large Michigan winery. The wine trail runs from Dundee in the south east, through Tecumseh, all around Jackson, and north to Haslett and St. John's.

Most of the members of the wine trail are newer wineries that have recently cropped up in this area - not an area traditionally thought of as good for growing wine grapes. But Southeastern Michigan was actually the site of the state's first wineries in the 19th century. Today the vintners of the Pioneer Wine Trail also feel like new pioneers - growing grapes and making wine away from the tempering climate of the shores of the Great Lakes.

While visiting the Michigan Shakespeare Festival, the wineries of the Pioneer Wine Trail invite you to spend a few hours or a few days visiting our charming wineries. Each is different from the other, but all offer personal service and delicious wines. For more information including a map, phone numbers, website addresses, and upcoming wine trail events, visit www.pioneerwinetrail.com.

And don't forget to show your Michigan Shakespeare Festival ticket stub for a 15% discount on wine purchases* along the trail!

*Discount does not apply to a few selected specialty wines. Please inquire with each individual winery to find out if any of their wines are excluded from this offer.
